Aston Villa happy with shot-stopper

Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan has been supported by manager Paul Lambert despite conceding the most goals in the Premier League this season.
The Villans took on Reading this weekend and Guzman made some brilliant saves to lead his team to a much needed victory. He got off to an early start on Saturday saving Adam Le Fondre’s header just 90 seconds into the game and subsequently Villa went on to win the important ‘six pointer’ 2-1.
Guzan was picked by Lambert over experienced Shay Given at the beginning of this season and the Villa manager believes he made the right choice.
“He’s been colossal,” Lambert told The Daily Mail.
“Shay deserves credit for how hard he has pushed. But Brad’s made some massive saves for us at big moments.
“Would I swap him? Not at all. He’s a good guy. A top character. He’s always bubbly which is important for the team.”
The 28-year old goalkeeper is appreciative of the chance Lambert has given him and wants to prove to him and the club that he can do be a success at Villa Park.
“It’s good to play consistent football week in, week out,” Guzan said.
“But at the same time, in my eyes, I still need to prove myself. I can’t be complacent, I can’t get comfortable.
“I had something to give to the club, I had a conversation with the manager at the start of the season.”
The pressure has eased slightly for Lambert after the team’s win meant they moved out of the relegation zone, but they still have a lot to do to ensure they remain in the Premier League next season.
