I believe Bent has a clause in his contract which states Sunderland will be due another hefty instalment after a couple more Premier League appearances, hence why he has rarely been in the squad even when fit.

Either way Bent is clearly surplus to requirements under Lambert and would have gone already had someone stumped up a reasonable offer. Sadly as with Hutton and Warnock, I doubt the club will receive any interest in their services this month.

I agree that the pressure on the young lads in defence is surreal, especially when a mistake can lead to a goal whereas if a young striker fluffs his lines, the worst he can do is concede possession. However relying on Dunne and Vlaar to plug the gap in defence is optimistic at best.

All Lambert’s signings have come from outside the top 5 European divisions, hence my reference as ‘lower league’ signings.

Because that’s my opinion. Norwich overachieved last season and have continued to do so this year. Four defeats in the last five is exactly the same run as results as Villa i.e relegation form.

If Hughton isn’t able to invest this month then I think they’ll find themselves in trouble come May.

I agree Sue, sick of journo’s disrespecting the ‘less glamourous’ clubs. We have never said Bent is for sale, he said himself last week has carried injuries all season then gets another, so has Nzogbia and Ireland has had a couple. Dunne has been out all season so far and Vlaar only just back, this has heaped pressure on our young lads. Lerner will back Lambert but it has to be a player or players who fit and will evolve with the squad. Money is readily available for the right signings. Lambert has brought in four young lower league talents, three from the Dutch top flight and one international from Belgium so not all ‘lower league’ ….. I have faith he will get it right. UTV
