Aston Villa manager Paul LambertAston Villa manager Paul Lambert believes that his side are capable of claiming a shock result against Manchester City in tonight’s game.

The Villains have slipped into the Premier League’s bottom three after their defeat at the hands of Arsenal last time out.

But, in their upcoming fixtures Villa race fellow relegation strugglers Reading and QPR, in games that could dictate their chance of survival.

But, Lambert is fully focused on their clash with City and is hopeful of securing an unlikely result against the defending champions:

“People are asking about the Reading and QPR games and I say to them, ‘so there’s no point in playing Manchester City then?’” He is quoted by the Daily Mail.

“I don’t view it that way. We may as well just give it to them if we think like that. We want to beat Manchester City.

“You are there to win, regardless of whether it is City or QPR or whoever. We have to try and win. We are a threat going forward. We are not going into it just to draw or anything like that.”

Villa have been underwhelming for the vast majority of the season, failing to put together a consistent run of results.

They appeared to be on the verge of securing an unlikely point at the Emirates Stadium last weekend, but Andreas Weimann’s leveller was quickly deemed a consolation goal as Santi Cazorla netted the winner.

Lambert was buoyed by the game, despite the result:

“I felt there were signs of encouragement against Arsenal but then I’ve felt that for a few weeks without getting the results.”
