Brazilian playmaker Bernard has confirmed he is planning to quit Ukrainian side Shaktar Donetsk, but has played down speculation linking him with a move to Arsenal or Tottenham, according to the Express.

Bernard was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in the summer, but opted to complete a £20million switch to the Ukraine.

He has since struggled for first team football, and has been unable to display his best form.

The current political situation in Ukraine has also left the 21-year-old wondering whether he made the right choice last summer.

“The demonstrations in the city centre, in front of city hall, have already begun,” Bernard said.

“My parents and a cousin live with me. I have already talked to the ambassador of Brazil about if it gets worst if we leave Ukraine as soon as possible.

“You can not stay quiet. I have this concern but it is now left in the hands of God.”

Asked whether the situation could lead to him making a transfer to another club, Bernard appeared to downplay the possibility, although he did confirm he would be interested in making a switch to one of Europe’s top clubs in the future.

“I have the dream of playing for a big European club but I have only been at this club for seven months,” he added.

“It is a big investment and the president does not want to release me.”
