Ryan Bertrand has refused to rule out the possibility of joining Aston Villa on a permanent basis at the end of the season, according to the London Evening Standard.

The twice capped England international has insisted he will take things one game at a time until then, but has suggested anything is possible.

Villa boss Paul Lambert had previously raised concerns about the possibility of making the deal permanent, with Chelsea set to demand a sizeable fee for the Champions League winner.

The 24-year-old was expected to be Chelsea’s second choice left back behind Ashley Cole this season, but the form of Spaniard Cesar Azpilicueta has seen his first team opportunities limited at Stamford Bridge.

However, now Bertrand is fully focused on helping Villa achieve a strong finish to the Premier League season, after managing just two victories in their last two Premier League games.

“I’m just here to concentrate on each game as it comes and to get back playing regularly,” Bertrand said.

“I’ll leave all that stuff until the end of the season.

“You can’t rule anything out. It’s important, first and foremost, that my performances are good enough. I need to concentrate on each game.

“I’ve settled in quite easily. It’s fortunate, to be fair, because I know half the team through England at younger ages. It has been good. It’s great to be involved in a derby for my first home game.”

Lambert has expressed his delight at landing a player of Bertrand’s quality, but was cautious when discussing the prospect of a permanent transfer.

“He’s Chelsea’s player and we’re thankful to them for letting him come here,” Lambert said.

“What Ryan’s value is I haven’t a clue. He’s played in the biggest club competition and won it so he knows how to do it.”
