Chelsea’s move for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas could have financial implications on London rivals Arsenal, according to the Telegraph.

The Spaniard moved from the Gunners to the Catalan giants for an initial £25.4m deal in 2011, with a clause in the deal stating that Arsenal would receive 50 per cent of any profit Barcelona make from selling him on.

And with further add ons being triggered, the current cost of Fabregas’ switch to the Nou Camp currently stands at a little over £28m.

Barcelona are asking for £30m, which would mean Arsenal receiving around £1m should any team meet that figure, but Chelsea are hopeful of securing a deal for £27m in order to avoid paying their Premier League rivals a percentage of the transfer fee.

However, Matt Law of the Telegraph believes such an issue is not a ‘deal-breaker’ and Chelsea are hopeful of completing a deal this week.

But Chelsea’s ‘transfer tactics’ suggests they see Arsenal as direct Premier League rivals next term and this could add more tension between them on the transfer front following last summer.

Jose Mourinho’s side demanded a huge loan fee for Demba Ba when Arsenal came knocking for the striker, shortly after Arsene Wenger had paid a club-record £42.5m, presumably in fear that the German midfielder and Ba would link up and give Arsenal a better chance of pipping them to the title.

how much is the money that Chelsea can’t cough out? If they truly wanted the player, they’ll pay any amount to get his signature.
