Chelsea defender David Luiz’s long talked about move to Barcelona could be back on following the Spaniards’ successful appeal against their transfer ban, according to reports from The Metro.

The La Liga champions have been linked with the curly-haired Brazil international for some time, but their hopes of securing a summer deal had looked to have been ended by FIFA imposed disciplinary action.

Barca had been deemed to have broken rules regarding the signings of youth stars, which resulted in a two-window ban from buying of selling any players.

But they have lobbied to get the punishment suspended, which will allow them to conduct business in the coming window.

This has opened the door for a fresh £25m offer for Luiz, who is said to be a defender that does not fit Jose Mourinho’s system.

Although a good technical player, the South American is prone to lapses in concentration and has seen his positional awareness criticised on numerous occasions.

Luiz himself may also be keen to make the move and become Carles Puyol’s successor at the Nou Camp – with the veteran centre-back set to leave the club when the season finishes.

Chelsea must keep Luiz
