Chelsea‘s decision to conduct their own private investigation over allegations made towards referee Mark Clattenburg.

Clattenburg is accused of making inappropriate comments towards Chelsea midfielders John Obi Mikel and Juan Mata during their 3-2 Premier League defeat to Manchester United, which he strongly denies.

And Bean feels there should only be one party investigating the incident and that Chelsea’s decision to conduct their own internal investigation alongside the Police and the FA may complicate things.

He told Sky Sports: “The reality of the situation is that there are three separate bodies doing their own inquiries when all it really needs just one group to do that inquiry, which should be the FA.

“Chelsea will be looking at collating the evidence from their perspective so that they can submit a report to the Football Association.

“But I’m concerned because it  will clearly be Chelsea orientated. They shouldn’t be doing that. The FA should be getting off their backsides, going down to the training ground and actually speaking to the players one to one so that they can get it straight from the horses mouth as to what they believe was said and what the allegations are.”

Bean also believes Chelsea might live to regret the whole the whole situation in the future, regardless of the outcome of the investigation.

“My gut feeling is that, at the end of all this process, Chelsea will rue the day that this happened because I just think tha they are in effect making a rod for thier own back,” he continued.

“If if those comments had been made it is clear that the referee brigade are sticking together on it.”
