Chelsea ace set for £20m move
The 23-year-old’s chances at Chelsea have been limited to just four substitute appearances under new manager Roberto Di Matteo this season and he is desperate for first team football in order to re-ignite his England career.
Liverpool and Tottenham are both reported to be interested in the striker but Chelsea are only willing to sell Sturridge if they meet their £20 million price tag.
Reds manager Brendan Rodgers failed in a transfer deadline day loan swoop for the former Manchester City player and is eager to strengthen his striking options at Anfield, which currently only consists of Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez.
Tottenham manager Andres Villas-Boas worked with Sturridge during his short spell as Chelsea boss last season and is keen to bring him to White Hart Lane to link him up with Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor as he attempts to re-build a side capable of competing for a top four finish in the Premier League.
Roberto Di Matteo is already lining up a replacement for Sturridge, with the likes of Atletico Madrid’s Radamel Falcao, Marseille’s Loic Remy and Bayer Leverkusen’s Andre Schurrle on the Italian’s radar.
Sturridge, who has recently struggled with a hamstring injury, joined Chelsea in a £3.5 million deal from Manchester City in 2009 and has since made 86 appearances in all competitions, scoring 22 goals, for the European Champions.
