Chelsea boss admits Real Madrid is his soft spot
Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez has recently shown his love for Real Madrid, the club where he begun his career and has admitted that he would consider a return after his time in the Premier League comes to an end.
In an interview with the Spanish radio station RNE, the interim boss admitted every manager has a preference, including himself, and the Bernabeu club brings back good memories for him.
“As a manager, you always have your sweetheart. I arrived at Real when I was 13 and I’m from Madrid. I have a link with the fans and they always treated me well,” he said.
However, Benitez did not want his statements to create controversy, adding: “I have a contract with Chelsea until the end of the season and I will do my best for this team to obtain the best of success.
“Real Madrid has a manager with a contract and he deserves respect. I don’t want speculation and my words always get misunderstood.”
The 52-year-old also mentioned his desire of managing the Spanish national team one day, although that is not considered as a short-term option.
“I see the Spain team as a career alternative, but in the future,” he added.
“The day Vicente del Bosque – who is doing a sensational job – says he is leaving, or after a couple more managers…then, I might like to be the coach.”
