Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says that he does not want to sell Juan Mata, but hinted that the club will not block his exit if he wants to leave.

The Spanish midfielder has endured a difficult few months in West London since ‘The Special One’s’ arrival, with speculation surrounding his future having been rife.

Mata was dropped to bench on a regular basis in the first few fixtures of the season, but has appeared to win Mourinho over since then.

However, he is no longer heralded as one of the Blues’ key players, which was shown by the Portuguese coach’s decision to withdraw him during Chelsea’s 3-0 win against Southampton.

Mata appeared frustrated while taking up a position on the bench with the scoreline level.

After the game Mourinho was questioned about his playmaker’s future, and suggested that he could be allowed to leave:

“I don’t want him to go, that is my opinion and that is my wish – but my door is open,” he is quoted by The Metro.

“The club door is open too, so when a player wants to speak with us we are there waiting for them. But if you ask me do I want to sell him, I don’t want to.

“I didn’t see the reaction, his frustration was because of the result – we have to win.

“If we don’t win this game then the difference to the leaders is bigger.

‘At the end of the game everyone including him was celebrating the victory.”

Mata has been the subject of rumours linking him with both Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan of late.
