Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho celebrated his side’s progress and ability as they eased past Galatasaray to make it into the Champions League quarter-finals.

The Blues built on a 1-1 draw away in Istanbul with a solid 2-0 home victory against the Turkish giants to book their spot in the last eight of the tournament.

Samuel Eto’o and Gary Cahill sealed the result with two first-half goals on an emotional night that saw Didier Drogba return to Stamford Bridge for the first time since leaving them to join Shanghai Shenhua in 2012.

After the game ‘The Special One’ celebrated the progress of his side since their Europa League victory last season, and said that they “deserve” to be among the best clubs in the continent this term:

“We are there (in the last eight) – but it’s different from last season because last season was the Europa League at a different level,” he is quoted by The Mirror.

“To come from the Europa League to the quarter-finals of the Champions League is important for the club, important for the players.

“We are a Champions League club and now we are among the best eight, the best clubs in the world, and we are there.

“The players deserve to be there.

“It was a difficult tie, the sort of tie where people think we have to do it. But Galatasaray are a big side. I think we did very well.”

Chelsea could well be the only English side in the quarter-finals, with Manchester United needing to turn around a 2-0 deficit to overcome Olympiakos.
