Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has rubbished reports of a swap deal involving Thibaut Courtois and Diego Costa.

The Blues have been heavily linked with the Atletico Madrid forward over the course of the past few weeks, with ‘The Special One’ believed to see him as the ideal solution to his desire to land a top class goalscorer.

The high-flying la Liga side are reluctant to let their leading star leave, but are speculated to be open to a possible deal if Courtois – on loan at the club – is included.

The Belgian stopper signed for Chelsea in 2011, but is yet to play a competitive fixture for them.

Upon signing a contract at Stamford Bridge he was immediately sent to Madrid, where he has since remained.

The ‘keeper is said to be desperate for first-team action next season, which has opened the door for a transfer away from Chelsea, where he would likely come back in as Petr Cech’s understudy.

These factors have led to talk of an exchange deal, but Mourinho has moved to rule out the possibility:

“Courtois is our player. I can’t say anything about Costa,” He is quoted by The Metro.

The Portuguese coach then went on to say that he is not expecting to do any more business this month after signing Nemanja Matic and Mohamed Salah:

“Unless an incredible surprising deal happens with one of our players – and because of that we have to react – I don’t believe [Chelsea will buy],”
