Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has hit out at the French media after comments he made to a businessman at a recent sponsor’s event were secretly recorded and published.

French TV station Canal Plus recorded Mourinho making comments about current Chelsea strikers Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba.

And today he slammed the media’s ethical approach to publishing the recording and suggested other journalists should be “embarrassed” by their pier’s actions.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League last-16 first-leg meeting with Galatasaray on Wednesday night, he said: “I think you should be embarrassed as a media profession because, from an ethical point of view, I don’t think you are happy that a colleague is able to record a private conversation and make it public.

“It was a funny conversation who doesn’t belong to the football world. It is a disgrace that someone is taping a private conversation.

“I’m not defending what I said, I’m attacking something that is in your area and that person showed exactly what he is and doesn’t know about the job.

“The comment is not a good one, it’s not one I would do in a serious way, in an official way in an interview, first because I don’t make fun and second because if there are managers who defend their players, then I am one of them.

“With Eto’o, he is one who is working with a manager for a second time and a manager doesn’t do that unless he likes the person or player. There is no story.”
