Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has responded angrily to Eden Hazard’s criticism of his tactics after their mid-week Champions League exit at the hand of Atletico Madrid.

Following the 3-1 home defeat, the Belgian ace suggested that he was unhappy with the style of football being employed at Stamford Bridge, insinuating that the Blues are not set up to play in an attractive way.

His judgement reflected much of the pot-shots being aimed at Chelsea over the course of the past few weeks, with many having been riled by their defensive actions against Liverpool at Anfield – which yielded a 2-0 win, albeit an unattractive one.

Speaking ahead of his team’s weekend clash with Norwich, Mourinho was critical of Hazard’s own approach, insisting that his on-field nature has been costly to his side – especially against Atletico on Wednesday:

“Normally you get these kind of comments from players like him, from players that can’t resolve a problem like we had in the first goal.” He is quoted by Sky Sports.

“Eden is the kind of player that is not so mentally ready to look back to his left-back and to leave his life for him.

“If you see the first goal of Atletico you completely understand where the mistake was and why we conceded that goal.

“The perfect team at the top level cannot make these kinds of mistakes.”

The comments also come in the wake of rumoured interest in Hazard from Paris Saint-Germain.
