Willian lay on the floor, career in the balance, having mercilessly been hauled down shortly after entering battle. No one could bare to watch and silence quickly fell around Stamford Bridge. No one that is but: JT. As Chelsea physio Eva Carneiro entered the fray to attend to the stricken forward there was one man who didn’t shy away. John Terry did the brave thing in walking over to survey the situation, offer some captainly advice, maybe even a rub on the back.

Who knows what drew him to hunched Carneiro and Willian. The sense of responsibility? The need to be leader of men? Or just good old fashioned captainly supervision? We may never be sure but I for one am glad he did.
