Chelsea close in on Chilean
Chelsea are in “advanced” negotiations for O’Higgins midfielder Cristian Cuevas, according the player’s agent.
The 17-year-old, who is thought of as one of the top rising stars of South American football, is believed to be a target for the Premier League club after it was revealed last week that tentative talks had opened regarding a move.
Now, his agent Mauricio Valenzuela has confirmed that a deal could be struck and stated that negotiations are close to being finalised:
“The negotiations are very advanced with Chelsea, ” he is quoted by Sky Sports via Al Aire Libre en Cooperativa.
“There are still a few details, but the situation is very advanced.”
Chelsea are thought to have been tracking the youngster for some time, after being alerted by a succession of impressive performances for his club and national U-20 team.
Despite his youthful age, Valenzuela feels that Cuevas is ready to move and will flourish with the Blues:
“We have been working on this for a while, the idea is that players can leave Chile and be successful,
“Chelsea had been following him for a couple of years, and the offer was made due to his good performances.”
If a deal is reached, it’s likely that Cuevas would remain with O’Higgins on loan to further his development away from the spotlight of English football.
