Chelsea are considering a January move for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos, according to reports from the Daily Star.

Jose Mourinho is rumoured to be willing to let David Luiz leave in the New Year, and is keen to replace him with the Spanish international.

Ramos is thought to be unsettled at the Bernabeu, with criticism of his form and contractual worries promoting speculation that he is considering his options.

‘The Special One’ worked with the 27-year-old during his time in charge of Los Blancos, and is known to be a fan of his abilities.

If Luiz is sold – with both Barcelona and Real Madrid keen – Mourinho is ready to use the fee received to step up his pursuit of the ex-Sevilla man.

Although Ramos has played down talk of his problems at the club, he is believed to be concerned about his role under Carlo Ancelotti in the build-up to the World Cup.

He has frequently found himself out of position this term, with the Italian having fielded him at right-back and occasionally in midfield rather than at the heart of the defence.

Mourinho would be willing to play him in his desired position, which may boost his chances of being a key man for Spain next summer.

Should Chelsea move for Sergio Ramos?
