Atletico Madrid's Thibaut Courtois

Chelsea will ask for £17million from anyone interested in signing young goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois in the summer transfer window.

The Daily Star are reporting that the London club are unwilling to sell the young star, who has impressed during his two year loan spell at Atletico Madrid, and will only accept a massive offer for the Belgian.

Atletico boss Diego Simeone wants to sign Courtois on a permanent deal, but has been shocked by the amount Chelsea are after, even though the 20-year-old has never played in Chelsea colours.

The young goalkeeper was allowed to play against his parent club in the UEFA Super Cup in August, as Atletico thrashed Chelsea 4-1. But now the Blues see Courtois has an ideal replacement for Petr Cech, as the 30-year-old is set to complete his 9th season with the club.

Atletico have enquired about using Courtois as a sweetener in a deal that would see star striker Radamel Falcao sent to Stamford Bridge next summer. The Columbian is in demand after being linked with Chelsea, Manchester City, PSG and Real Madrid over recent months. However the Blues are still unsure if they want to let the Belgian international leave, and aren’t discussing his long-term future.

Courtois has helped Atletico Madrid challenge neighbours Real for 2nd in La Liga, with just one point separating the two sides in the league table. Courtois could feature in Belgium’s home and away World Cup qualifiers against Macedonia, before returning to the Atletico line-up to face Valencia at the end of the month.
