Chelsea interim manager Rafael Benitez has met with members of the club’s board ahead of the January transfer window.

The Spaniard has suffered a tough start to his reign in London, with his side having scored just one goal and failed to win in his three Premier League matches in charge.

This has led to speculation that the Stamford Bridge-based outfit may delve into the transfer market to strengthen their squad.

Benitez confirmed that additions have been discussed ahead of what could be a busy winter period:

“We didn’t talk about any players going,” he is quoted by London24.

“The board were asking me about players coming but not about any players leaving.”

The likes of Edinson Cavani and Radamel Falcao have been suggested as possible targets in recent weeks as the club look to have finally run out patience with mis-firing £50m striker Fernando Torres.

It has also been suggested that Benitez may be looking to bring in an experienced central midfielder to protect the Blues’ leaky defensive line.

Comments from the manager shed no light on the futures of aging stars such as Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard.

Cole has been heavily linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain with the club looking to reduce their vast wage bill.

Lampard is in a similar situation, and could make a sensational switch to LA Galaxy, where he is seen as the ideal replacement for David Beckham.
