Chelsea may face a battle to keep Andre Schurrle at Stamford Bridge, with reports from AS claiming that Atletico Madrid have targeted the winger.

The Germany international recently helped his nation to World Cup glory on the back of a fine debut campaign in the Premier League, and appears to have caught Diego Simone’s attention in the Spanish capital.

Atleti have been busy in the transfer market this summer already, selling Diego Costa and David Villa while bringing in Mario Mandzukic and Antoine Griezmann.

Simeone now wants Schurrle to slot in alongside the aforementioned Rojiblancos new boys to create a fearsome front three as he plots to defend the club’s title as La Liga champions.

The 23-year-old was in great form for Chelsea last term, but for much of the campaign he was a bit-part player as Jose Mourinho sought to balance his wealth of options.

Atletico hope that the lure of guaranteed playing time may tempt him, with their boss desperate to add his work-rate and commitment to his ranks.

However, the Spaniards will have to sell before they can pursue a move.

We havent used him enough. If we used him as a striker I think specially now hes full of confidence he would find the net. Even with Costa we still dont have enough fire power. Whats gonna happen if/when Diego gets injured/suspended and all we have is a non firing Torres and supersub Drogs. Even with Schurrle we need another striker but Jose doesnt listen to me :P
