Chelsea hold private meetings to discuss potential transfer
The Blues have been linked with Falcao for over a year now, with many expecting a deal to be done on deadline day in the summer, where the two teams played each other in the UEFA Super Cup. Falcao ended up scoring 4 goals on the night, and went home to Madrid with the team.
But Spanish TV station Punto Pelota claims the two clubs have recently held private talks to discuss the transfer of the Columbian.
Falcao has been prolific ever since he joined the Spanish side from Porto, scoring 5 goals in a single match against Deportivo La Coruna in December. Atletico are keen to avoid Falcao joining their neighbours Real Madrid, and would much rather see the striker play in the blue colours of Chelsea next season.
Whilst attempting to sign Falcao, Chelsea have also been trying to frighten off any interest from Atletico in goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian has spent the last two seasons on loan in Madrid, and has become one of the best young ‘keepers in Europe.
But despite never playing a game for Chelsea, they are keen to keep hold of him, and have slapped a £17million price tag on the 20-year-old.
Falcao will be focusing on playing for Columbia this week, with World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Venezuela coming up.
