Oriol Romeu says that he is keen to fight for his Chelsea future once his loan move to Valencia has finished.

The Spanish midfielder joined the La Liga side on a season-long deal over the summer after sliding down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

With a number of competitors in his position, it was expected that the 22-year-old would struggle for first-team action, prompting the switch back to his homeland to boost his development.

His impressive displays at the Mestalla have not gone unnoticed, with Jose Mourinho keeping a close eye on the former Barcelona youth player as he plots to build aside capable of challenging for future honours in West London.

Romeu revealed that he has been told that if he continues to perform well that he may have a future at Chelsea, and that he is keen to explore that possibility:

“If [the talk of a possible return] is true it is really good, I hope so. It is good that they are interested in me,” he is quoted by Sky Sports.

“I know that they are following me and they are happy with my recent performances. They have congratulated me but I have not spoken directly to Mourinho.

“Chelsea scouters told me recently that there are not many players in my position and that if I have a good season they will want me back next year.”
