Thibaut Courtois has hinted that he may return to Chelsea from Atletico Madrid this summer.

The Belgian goalkeeper has just finished his third successive season at the Vicente Calderon, where he has developed a reputation as one of Europe’s best young stoppers.

Courtois starred for Atleti as they ended 2013/14 as La Liga champions and Champions League runners-up, and has since been linked with another move to the capital-based outfit.

The Rojiblancos are rumoured to be keen to secure him for at least one more season on loan, and are even thought to be weighing up the possibility of a full transfer.

Courtois himself has hinted that he may stay on occasions and has also been quoted suggesting that he could go back to Chelsea.

The 22-year-old has now said that he enjoys life in Madrid, but that a move back to his parent club may be best for his career:

“We will talk after the World Cup, we’ll talk with Chelsea,” he is quoted by Goal.

“I’m very comfortable here, I love living here, but at times you have to think about the sporting aspect.

“We’ll see what happens, I can’t say right now. First the World Cup.”

Courtois is seen as a long-term successor to Petr Cech.
