Diego Costa is adamant that he will not become Chelsea’s latest big name flop striker.

The Spanish international recently completed a £32m move to west London from Atletico Madrid, where he fired 36 goals as the Rojiblancos won the league title and reached the Champions League Final.

However his poor showings at the World Cup – he failed to net for the defending champions – have sparked talk that he may be the latest in a long line of forwards who have struggled at Stamford Bridge.

Fernando Torres and Andriy Shevchenko are, perhaps, the two great examples of big money additions who have failed for the Blues in recent times, with many players unable to live up to the performances of club idol Didier Drogba – who is being liked with a surprise return at the age of 36.

But Costa is confident that he will not join the list, and that his adjustment to Premier League football will be a smooth one:

“I am hopeful for what is happening in my life and I will adapt well.” He is quoted by the London Evening Standard.

“I have wanted to play in the Premier League for a long time and I think it will be a very good and fast adaptation.

“I do not think there will be many changes to the style of play (compared with Atletico).

“Chelsea are a great team and the Premier League is good to play in.”
