Chelsea midfielder Yossi Benayoun is hopeful that he still has a role to play at Stamford Bridge despite the quality that the club have in his position according to Sky Sports.

Benayoun has been out on loan to Arsenal and West Ham in the past 18 months and never really established himself at Chelsea’s London rivals in that time.

An Achilles injury has left him on the sidelines for the majority of this season but after appearing in two of the last four games for Rafa Benitez’ Chelsea, Benayoun is ready to fight for a place in the side permanently.

Many expected the Israeli Captain to leave Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window but it seems Benitez is keen to see what the 32 year old has to offer.

With the likes of Eden Hazard, Juan Mata, Oscar, Frank Lampard, Victor Moses and Marko Marin all battling for two or three places in the Blues starting line-up, Benayoun knows he must take his chance.

“I have been in four big clubs in England but the only one where I haven’t really been able to show what I can do is Chelsea,” Benayoun said.

“That is because I got an Achilles injury and then I went on loan.

“Hopefully now there is the chance for me. It is a big squad, a lot of quality, but I will do my best and hopefully it will be enough.”
