Andre Schurrle is confident that his Chelsea team will come back stronger next season after ending the campaign without a trophy.

The Blues narrowly missed out on Champions League success after semi-final elimination at the hands of Atletico Madrid, while their Premier League hopes lasted until just a matter of days before the season’s climax.

Jose Mourinho was expected to bring instant success back to Stamford Bridge after a career that has yielded quick results at numerous top clubs, but his failure to bring home any silverware is unlikely to see Roman Abramovich wield his overused managerial axe just yet, with the Portuguese coach having spoke much of transition and development in recent weeks.

Schurrle, who has enjoyed an up and down first season in English football, believes that 2014/15 will be more successful in west London after their narrow misses:

“It was very important to finish well. We can go into the summer break with a win for the fans.” He told the club’s official website in the wake of the final day win at Cardiff.

“We wanted to win the Premier League and we wanted to win the Champions League.

“We were almost a winner but this is nothing and I’m sure we’ll come back very strong next season.”

Schurrle also feels that he will be able to push on next season:

“I had a few problems to adapt to the league but I think it’s normal if you come as a young player from another country.

“I think I can come back even stronger and better next season.”
