Manchester United in the Capital One Cup.

Sturridge scored the fourth goal which put his side en route to victory in what was an enthralling encounter.

The Londoners fought back from behind 3 times taking the game to extra time at 3-3 before they eventually secured their 5-4 victory.

It is a stark contrast to the controversial scenes of Sunday where the referee Mark Clattenburg took centre stage as Chelsea ended up losing 3-2 at Stamford Bridge.

England International Sturridge has found starts hard to come by this season due to the re-emergence of Spanish striker Fernando Torres, as well as the arrival of an abundance of attacking midfield talent in the forms of Oscar and Eden Hazard.

Despite this being the case, the marksman was happy to focus on the positives of beating Manchester United and securing a quarter final place in the competition.

He went on to tell Sky Sports “It’s great. It’s important that we came out here with the right attitude because the manager criticised us for not starting well enough (on Sunday).

It’s just about putting a smile on the fans’ faces again because I feel that they were disappointed after the weekend.”

The player will be looking to build upon his first start and goal of the season, and will be hoping to feature in Chelsea’s next game at the Liberty Stadium against Swansea on Saturday.
