Chelsea’s Andre Schurrle has revealed that he is looking forward to today’s London derby with Arsenal, where he will come up against some of his international colleagues.

The German ace could end up taking on compatriots such as Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski if he takes to the field in the midday clash, with the Gunners having strong connections with the nation in their first-team.

Schurrle has been by no means a regular starter for the Blues in his debut season at the club, but with Willian and Ramires both set to be absent through suspension, Jose Mourinho could call upon him as he rotates his options.

The ex-Bayer Leverkusen wide-man is aware that the tie with Arsenal is an important one for the fans, and says that it has an extra edge for him due to the presence of some of his fellow countrymen:

“It’s a London derby, but I guess you could also call it a bit of a derby for the Germany players too,” he is quoted by The Express.

“They are guys I know well, all good friends, so it’s going to be interesting – especially when you look at the situation in the league table and how close it is.

“Derbies, especially for the fans, are very important, which then makes it important for us to make sure we win it for them.

“The next matches are very important. We need to pick up three points each match to keep ahead and winning gives us the confidence to do that.”

The game could also have an impact in the title race, with Arsenal just four points behind league leaders Chelsea.
