Atletico Madrid are looking to re-sign Chelsea striker Fernando Torres, reports the Daily Mail.

However, the La Liga champions are struggling to find the money to finance the deal, due to the Spaniards £8million-a-year salary demands. Miguel Angel Gil, Atletico’s chief executive, was in London to offer the Blues £12.5million for the forward, who cost Chelsea £50million in 2011.

Jose Mourinho is looking to receive nearer £20million for Torres, who isn’t keen on taking a pay cut in any move to Madrid. ‘EL Nino’ left Atletico for Liverpool in 2007, but has struggled to relive the form he enjoyed at Anfield since moving to London. The 30-year-old has only scored 20 league goals in the three-and-a-half years he’s spent at Stamford Bridge.

Atletico and Chelsea have already negotiated two deals this summer, with both Diego Costa and Felipe Luis leaving Spain to join Jose Mourinho, whilst rumours suggest that Romelu Lukaku was offered to Diego Simeone earlier this summer. But another deal between the two clubs may not happen, unless the striker agrees to take a pay cut.

Torres’ playing time at Chelsea is expected to be reduced now Diego Costa has arrived. The former Liverpool striker only started 16 games last season in the Premier League, the lowest amount for a full season during his Chelsea career.
