Evening Standard.

The 22-year-old is reported to be a target for Chelsea and Bayer director of sport Rudi Voller is thought to have flown to London last week to hold preliminary talks with the Blues.

The European champions are thought to be ready to offer Kevin de Bruyne plus a cash sum in order to capture the Germany international, who was linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge last summer.

With Bayer on the verge of securing a place in next season’s Champions League, Holzhauser says he wants Schurrle to make his mind up whether he wants to stay in Germany or not so he can start lining up potential replacements.

“Last year, we had an enquiry, but it came very late,” he said. “This time, it is still relatively early, which is good.

“Andre is, alongside Mario Gotze, one of the best young players in Germany and if he leaves us, we will want cover for him. We want clarity as soon as possible.”

Holzhauser went on to reveal that after the preliminary talks Chelsea and Bayer were still someway off putting any deal in place.

“We are still quite a long way apart in terms of certain details,” he told Germany’s SID agency. “There are always two options: either Andre stays here or he leaves.”
