Chelsea have joined Atletico Madrid in the hunt for Hamburg starlet Hakan Calhanoglu, according to the Express.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed an impressive debut season in the Bundesliga, and has even been described by some as ‘the new Mesut Ozil.’

Arsenal and Liverpool were both linked with the playmaker during the January transfer window, however their reported interest amounted to nothing.

And now reports in Spain suggest Jose Mourinho has set his sights on the Turkish international, who is likely to cost in the region of £13million.

However the Blues face a fight for the youngster’s signature with Champions League semi final opponents Atletico Madrid, with reports suggesting Calhanoglu is a big admirer of fellow countryman Arda Turan – a fact that may well influence his decision.

Calhanoglu has hit 10 goals in 32 Bundesliga appearances this season, and is capable of playing anywhere behind the striker or as a centre forward.

Jose Mourinho is looking to add more goals to his Chelsea side for next season, with Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o all unclear on their futures at Stamford Bridge.
