Chelsea look set to miss out on Inter Milan midfielder Fredy Guarin, after the Italian side’s sporting director scrapped claims that a January deal is on the cards.

The Colombian ace was thought to be close to becoming the Blues’ first major addition of 2014, with reports suggesting that a £14m switch was close to completion.

Manchester United have also been linked with the bombarding South American, with Inter expected to be ready to let him leave the San Siro.

However, sporting director Piero Ausilio has moved to quash talk of Guarin’s exit by claiming that, despite contact with Chelsea, he is going nowhere:

“Guarin is an Inter player and we are happy to keep him,” he is quoted by Sky Sports.

“Denying the contacts with Chelsea would be denying the evidence. It is a source of pride to talk with them about one of our players, but everything stopped there.

“We are happy Guarin could stay with us for a long time. We don’t have the intention to sell him. He’s an important player.”

Ausilio then went on to end speculation of a shock move to lure Southampton’s Pablo Osvaldo back to Italy after six months at St Mary’s Stadium:

“We have never had any idea for Osvaldo. In attack, we will remain as we are.”
