Lazio Coy Over Frank Lampard Move
Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard is wanted by Italian club Lazio but the club’s president is worried about the financials.
President Claudio Lotito says that the club may need to sign a new midfielder in the summer, but it would have to one that fits with the current wage bill in Rome.
Lampard is wanted by a number of Italian clubs after Chelsea owner Roman Abramavich made it clear that he would be leaving when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Despite being the catalyst for the Blues in recent weeks, the former West Ham graduate along with other ageing Chelsea players has been politely asked to leave.
Lazio are fearful that the England internationals wages will be astronomical and that his arrival could disrupt the harmony of the dressing room.
“We are aware that we have players in that position that are already competitive,” Lotito told Sky Sports.
“However, should we go for a new midfielder, he would have to fit in with the economic structure we have at the club.
“The dressing room has its own balance and we have no intention of altering that.”
Lampard is expected to have offers from England, Italy, France and America when his contract runs out in the summer.
