Lukaku aiming to be a Chelsea icon
The Belgian striker has spent this season on loan with West Brom, displaying the sort of potential that persuaded the Blues to bring him to England in 2011.
His impressive start to the Premier League season prompted rumours that the Londoners may recall him ahead of the latter stages of the campaign, but instead they have allowed him to stay at the Hawthorns.
But, the 19-year-old does feel that his long-term future is with Chelsea and revealed that he wants to become one of the club’s all time great strikers:
“Yeah, that is the dream. That’s what I signed for Chelsea for,” he said.
“My aim is to play at the Bridge and to be a legend over there in the future.
“But the time is going so really I need to keep playing. And hopefully in the next few years become one of the key elements at the Bridge.”
Chelsea’s signing of Demba Ba during January appears to have pushed the teenager further down the pecking order at the club.
But, Lukaku knows that he will have to dislodge top names to play regular first-team football, and is relishing the chance of proving himself:
“That’s the thing when you play for Chelsea. They will always sign big players,” he added.
“So now it is up to me to show I can go over there and play and do the same as he does now.”
