Redknapp questions Chelsea’s Lampard stance
The veteran midfielder’s contract is set to expire next summer and, according to reports, there are no plans in place to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.
Redknapp, whose QPR side face Chelsea today (Wednesday), believes that it would be a real error of judgment by the West London-based club to allow their talismanic playmaker to leave:
“I personally think they would be making a big mistake in letting Frank go,” he is quoted by The Mirror.
“We saw the other day, he’s still a top, top player. He scored two terrific goals at Everton (on Sunday).
“I don’t think you’ll find anywhere a better attacking midfield player who will score more goals in the Premier League.”
Chelsea are thought to be looking toward younger players in a bid to rejuvenate their squad, but Redknapp feels that they will struggle to find an adequate replacement for the 34-year-old:
“I don’t think they can upgrade from Frank. Where are you going to find someone as good as him?
“I can’t see him leaving. I would be surprised if he left Chelsea. I think his heart is at Chelsea – the fans absolutely idolise him. He is an amazing goal-scoring midfielder, so I still think there is every chance that he will still be at Chelsea next year.”
