Former Arsenal and France midfielder Robert Pires has claimed that Chelsea left back Ashley Cole would be happy to join Paris Saint-Germain in January, as reported by Sky Sports News.

Cole is out of contract in the summer and it has been reported that he may not be offered a new deal at Stamford Bridge, so a cheap January move may well be on the cards.

Reports yesterday claimed that PSG were interested in the England defender and that their boss and former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has met with his representatives. Cole would be able to sign a pre-contract with any foreign club in January ahead of a move in the summer, but Chelsea may well be looking to sell the player in the new year if they don’t offer him a new deal.

Pires played with Cole at Arsenal and feels that France would be a good move for him, both in football terms and financially.

“Paris could be interesting for him, at a sporting level and a financial level,” Pires told Sky Sports News

“He could say okay to Paris. The plans attract him, I know him well and I’m sure he is interested.”
