Chelsea defender David Luiz

Chelsea will receive a bid for defender David Luiz from Barcelona this week, according to the Daily Mail.

The Brazilian impressed in the Premier League last season, earning the attention of the Catalan giants, who had an offer rejected last month.

The Blues have slapped a £45million price tag on the 26-year-old, but Barca are hoping to negotiate to around the £35m mark. Director of Football Andoni Zubizaretta confirmed that his side are looking for a new centre-back, with the Chelsea star their priority.

Liverpool star Daniel Agger is the club’s back up plan, along with Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany, but the La Liga champions are keen to add Luiz to their star studded squad. Luiz would be the club’s second signing this summer after the £50million transfer of Neymar.

The defender’s erratic style had reportedly concerned manager Jose Mourinho, although the Portuguese boss was quick to deny suggestions that he was looking to sell Luiz. The Brazilian scored seven goals for Chelsea in all competitions, including two in the Europa League, as he helped the Blues lift the trophy.

With Barcelona ready to make a second bid for Luiz later this week, Chelsea may not have the Brazilian at their disposal for their opening league game against Hull City on the first day of the season, should the club accept Barca’s offer. The Blues face Hull on Sunday 18th August.

Do Blues fans want to keep Luiz? How much would you sell him for?
