The father of Thibaut Courtois has claimed it would be ‘impossible’ for his son to play second fiddle to Petr Cech at Chelsea next season, reports talkSPORT.

The Belgian youngster is one of the most highly-rated goalkeepers in the world, and is in his third successive season-long loan spell at Atletico Madrid.

He has played a crucial role in Diego Simeone’s side climbing to the top of La Liga, ahead of both Barcelona and Real Madrid, and the club have already admitted they would love to sign him on a permanent basis.

The Blues have been unwilling to entertain the idea, although some reports have suggested he could be used as a possible makeweight should Jose Mourinho look to sign striker Diego Costa in the summer.

And the keeper’s father Thierry believes that either Courtois or Petr Cech may be forced to leave Stamford Bridge for good in the summer.

“Jose Mourinho has said that he waits for him at Chelsea, so we will negotiate his return,” he told Marca.

“It is true that who is now [No.1] is Petr Cech, so the coexistence between the two is impossible.

“Alternating between the two would be possible, but it is not what we want. And for now, it’s impossible to go to a club where he is the second goalkeeper.”
