As anticipated, Liverpool’s Premier League title clash with Chelsea this afternoon was an incredibly intense occasion. The Blues came away with a 2-0 win, but in truth, the match was determined by a single moment – Demba Ba’s goal in first half stoppage time.

So in homage to the Blues forward, whose match-time has been sparse to say the least this season, here’s three reasons Jose Mourinho should have used Ba more throughout the campaign.

1. Goals

The Senegal star may not exactly be the ‘world-class’ centre-forward Chelsea have been desperately calling out for over the last few years, but there’s no doubt he’s more than capable of regularly scoring goals. His Premier League record from prior spells at West Ham and Newcastle stands at a combined total of 36 goals in 66 outings, and in his last eight appearances for Chelsea, Ba has found the net five times.
Here’s his composed strike against Liverpool, taking advantage of a rare Stevie Gerrard gaff, which eventually shaped the match in Chelsea’s favour:

He’s developed a knack for scoring incredibly important goals too.

2. Height and Power.

Admittedly, Demba Ba’s clumsy feet may not offer too much to Chelsea in terms of build-up play. But measuring in at 6 foot 2, the 28 year-old comes with great height and power – two vital characteristics for any striker in a Jose Mourinho team, as pointed out by these Blues fans on Twitter:

3. He’s better than Torres.

To give credit where it’s due, Fernando Torres’ cameo performance against his former club saw the Spaniard help Chelsea clinch the deciding goal of the afternoon – this breakaway in second-half stoppage time:

But as pointed out by these Chelsea fans on twitter, the £50million flop has been privy to a luxury of chances to prove himself this season and continually failed to, unlike Ba.
