Paulinho is ready to quit Tottenham and join Chelsea after the World Cup, according to reports from Goal.

The Brazil international – who will represent his nation at the showpiece tournament in a few months’ time – has found himself linked with the Blues in recent weeks despite having only joined Spurs last year.

Chelsea chief Jose Mourinho is rumoured to have set his sights on the 25-year-old as he plots to bulk out his midfield, but contrary to some speculation that emanated from South America official contact between the clubs has not been made.

It is understood that the player himself is keen to press through the move following a largely unsuccessful spell at White Hart Lane so far, in which he has struggled to hold down a starting berth and watched his side miss out on Champions League qualification.

Tottenham paid £17m for the midfielder when they snapped him up from Corinthians in his homeland, and are likely to demand over £20m to pass him on so quickly.

Paulinho is thought to be focusing on the World Cup for now, which indicates that a deal will have to wait until after the competition.
