Moyes has, essentially, 12 games to prove to many Evertonians that he is more than average. The man himself has said, this term, both that this is the best squad he's had and that its also a half-season side. What that adds up to is a manager who, with a genuinely capable side, is unable to motivate them for more than half a season.

As much risk as there is in seeing Moyes depart, if this is not simply just a continuation of his brinkmanship games over transfer funds, there is opportunity in potentially welcoming a new man with new ideas.

There are no shortage of talented managers out there at present either as we've seen with the links to Martinez, the shift Laudrup has put in at Swansea and, my personal choice, Solskjaer who's topped out the Norwegian league twice on the spin. There are just three off the top of the head who could all offer a club with a decent quality of player...plus resources we'd get in from Fellaini and Baines departing if they so chose...a decent CV to look at.

It is by no means a uniformly held view that Everton, post-Moyes, would face a bleak future.

Comparing the situations of clubs struggling after having a very capable manager for such a long period, which for Everton is little more than up for debate at the moment because it hasn't even happened. At no point are history, past success or standing within the game even mentioned, nor the ability of the players at both clubs.

If you can't see that, then, well, you my friend are clearly a sandwich or two short of a full picnic.
