Steven Naismith wants his Everton side to make up for missing out on Champions League qualification by thriving in the Europa League next term.

The Toffees had been on course to book a spot in the continent’s top club competition until some late season results saw Arsenal snatch fourth place.

As a result the Toffees will enter the second tier of European competition, which has often been dubbed as a nuisance tournament for big sides due to long trips and Thursday night matches.

But Naismith – who has played a big role for the Merseyside club in recent months – wants his team to seize the opportunity of silverware and make up for the blow of losing out on a Champions League slot:

“Europe definitely gives us a chance to keep progressing. If you are not involved in it, you end up sitting there watching, so it’s much better to be a part of it – and have a chance of winning a trophy.” He is quoted by The Mirror.

“I’m sure we’ll work on that and strengthen the squad in the summer. We have got to grips with the fundamentals of what the manager wants us to do, and we have to refine that.”

Naismith is expected to stay for next season and will be looking to better his tally of 10 goals during the 2014/15 campaign.

It’s very possible Everton can thrive in the continental competition either champions league or Europa league, if they can belong to the first 5 clubs. Why not, in football who knows.
