Roberto Martinez refused to suggest that his Everton side are now favourites to nick fourth place from Arsenal after their 3-0 win over the Londoners at Goodison Park.

Strikes from Steven Naismith and Romelu Lukaku and an own goal from former Toffees hero Mikel Arteta secured a vital victory for the Merseysiders, leaving them just a point behind the Gunners with a game in hand.

Everton now know that if they win their remaining six fixtures they will sneak into the final Champions League qualification spot to cap what has been an excellent season for the club.

But Martinez says that he is not getting carried away, and that he is expecting a tough battle between now and the end of the campaign:

“Not to sound too romantic about it, but I said before the game that whatever happened there would still be 18 points to fight for.” He told Sky Sports.

“It is very important that we recover well and get ready for next Saturday, which is another big final for us.

“The pressure is the pressure that we put on ourselves. 63 points after 32 games, that is the pressure that we have been working towards, to try and achieve as many points as we can.

“It is important that we don’t lose players and we get everyone refreshed and ready, so nothing changes.”

Everton will face Sunderland, Crystal Palace, Manchester United, Southampton and lastly Hull on the final day of the season.
