Everton boss Roberto Martinez is set to make the trip to Dundee to watch transfer targets Andrew Robertson and John Souttar in action, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Dundee United duo have been on the Toffees’ transfer radar for some time, and now it seems Martinez is ready to see for himself after receiving positive feedback from his scouting team.

The Spaniard is ready to have a look at left-back Robertson – who the club view as a possible long term replacement for Leighton Baines – and centre-back Souttar, a potential long term replacement for 36-year-old Sylvain Distin.

Martinez is ready to make the trip to see the two prospects in action against Hibs, the day after Everton take on QPR in the third round of the FA Cup.

Toffees chairman Bill Kenwright is set to back Martinez in January, since the Spaniard has enjoyed a superb start to the season.

Everton climbed into fourth spot in the Barclays Premier League with a 2-1 win over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium yesterday.

Martinez has won plaudits for the way his team have played this season, with a definite change in style apparent.

Martinez has also been credited for bringing the best out of 20-year-old Ross Barkley, who scored the winner with a superb free kick yesterday.

His handling of young players has given Kenwright further evidence to suggest a move for the Dundee United starlets would prove to be shrewd business.
