Everton chief Roberto Martinez believes that England manager Roy Hodgson should make Ross Barkley a part of his final squad for the World Cup.

The Toffees midfielder has emerged as one of the Premier League’s finest young talents since breaking into the Merseysiders’ first XI early in the current campaign with a succession of composed displays.

His performances haven’t gone unnoticed in terms of the international game, with Hodgson having handed his his senior debut last season, and made him a member of his squad for the recent friendly against Denmark – game the Three Lions won.

However there are doubts surrounding the likelihood of the 20-year-old making the final cut for the trip to Brazil, with the England coach having a number of impressive players to choose from.

But Martinez believes that Barkey’s “unique” talents mean that he should be given the nod despite his age:

“I always feel that Ross brings something so different to the England camp because of the uniqueness of his talent,” he is quoted by The Mirror.

“He can rise to any occasion and is ready to play at the very highest level. Ross can fulfil his huge potential and is quite unique in what he brings to the game.”
