Everton are confident of pushing through a £3.5m move for West Ham’s Mohamed Diame before the transfer window closes, according to reports from Goal.

The Toffees are said to be in the market for a new midfielder following Ross Barkley’s injury blow, with the Senegal star top of their list.

It’s understood that a deal was close to completion last week, and that the rangy former Wigan man had already bid farewell to his team-mates at Upton Park before the agreement stalled over personal terms.

Despite the hiccup, it’s expected that Everton will get the switch finalised, with Diame himself desperate to prove himself in the upper echelons of the Premier League.

The Merseysiders will only have to pay £3.5m due to a much publicised release clause in the 27-year-old’s contract.

West Ham have been attempting to improve their African star’s deal to keep him in east London, but the player himself is against doing so amid concerns that the Irons cannot match his level of ambition.

Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham have all been linked with Diame in the past.

Let him go, I say, Mo thinks he is a better player than he actually is!
Great ball skill, but poor goal attempts, seems like he gets a rush of blood in front of goal, most of the time. Would do better if he didn’t try to take too may players on, and laid it off to someone else!
