Everton are closing in on an £18m deal to sign Romelu Lukaku on a permanent basis from Chelsea, according to reports from Goal.

The burly Belgian youngster spent last season on loan at Goodison Park, notching 15 goals in 31 Premier League outings.

Despite his impressive spell on Merseyside, it has looked likely in recent weeks that Lukaku would not be heading back to the North West, with various rumours indicating that Spain or Italy were the player’s preferences.

However, it has now emerged that Everton are close to agreeing an £18m deal with Chelsea for the 21-year-old – with the Londoners ready to sell.

Lukaku himself is understood to be keen to play under Roberto Martinez once again and help the club with their Europa League adventure.

Everton are thought to be so desperate to nab their number target that they’re willing to dedicate the majority of their summer budget to getting the forward through the door.

Lukaku has been linked with Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Tottenham and West Ham in recent times.

Better than Everton? I don’t think so. A very talented team that Lukaku could put over the top this coming season.
