Everton boss Roberto Martinez’s hopes of retaining Gerard Deulofeu look set to end in disappointment following Barcelona’s transfer ban, according to reports from The Express.

The Spanish starlet is currently on loan at Goodison Park from the Catalan club, and has enjoyed an excellent season in English football.

After initial doubts surrounding his ability to cope with the Premier League’s physical style, Deulofeu has thrived, netting three goals in 19 outings in the blue shirt.

His impact has led to talk that Martinez is exploring the possibility of keeping the 20-year-old for another season, but Barca’s transfer ban may scupper that.

The La Liga champions look set to be unable to conduct any business for the next two transfer windows, after FIFA punished them for previous dealings involving youth players.

As a result, the club are already looking at bringing back some of their loanees for the 2014/15 campaign, with Deulofeu believed to be of particular interest.

The talented attacker will be in direct competition with the likes of Pedro, Lionel Messi and Neymar, but Barca are keen to get him back to keep their squad fresh.

The youngster himself is known to be open to a return, with his desire to break into his parent club’s starting XI strong.
