Everton new boy Aiden McGeady has asked for patience as he adapts to the pace of the Premier League, reports the Daily Star.

The 27-year-old Republic of Ireland winger struggled in his first Premier League start against Aston Villa last weekend, and has admitted it could be months before the Everton fans start to see the best of him.

The January signing from Spartak Moscow is short of match fitness, missing December and January due to the Russian winter break.

He has yet to make an impact at Goodison park, but is hoping he can show the fans what he is capable of before the season draws to a close.

“I was obviously a little bit apprehensive at the start, a little bit nervous against Aston Villa,” the former Celtic winger said.

“In the first half I thought I did okay and the second half I probably let myself down a couple of times.

“There were a few little things I was disappointed with.

“If I was on my game I know I wouldn’t have done those things, but I can’t be too harsh on myself because I need to bide my time and be patient.

“Hopefully in the coming months I can get up to full speed.”

Meanwhile, Everton have been boosted by the news that Romelu Lukaku could be fit in time for the Toffees’ FA Cup fifth round clash with Swansea on Sunday week.

The Belgian has undergone treatment in his home country on an ankle injury sustained in the derby defeat to Liverpool and is expected to return to first team training next week.

Doesn’t ask anything from the fans, not once does he ask for patience so why the deceptive title?
